The Vitamin Vaping Deception: Your Breath of Lies
- Jun 5, 2024
When health trends become a circus of dangerous smoke and mirrors, we at Eat Kale Or Die Trying, feel a moral obligation to intervene. Our latest bête noire is the sprouting fascination with vitamin vapes, a growing hype that has seen wellness enthusiasts puffing their way to supposed good health without nicotine's sting.
The Food and Drug Administration, or our good friends FDA, has thrown a cautionary shade on this overhyped trend. In a stunning reveal of 2021, they announced that a circus of claims around these vaping devices are based on unfounded health miracles. Not surprising, since these vapes are about as regulated as a wild house party.
These vapes may act like they're packed with vitamins, but nobody really knows what chemical cocktail they're brewing inside. Michael Ong, MD, PhD, professes that it's ludicrous to recommend inhaling vitamins, citing the spate of hospitalizations and even lung injuries that followed the vape wave.
Just when you thought it couldn't get worse, there's a fleet of keyboard warriors out there who'll proclaim vitamin vapes as the treatment for everything from anxiety to a bad hair day. But after scouring through reams of research, it turns out there is no golden ticket in vitamin vapes. Despite their rising popularity, there's no concrete evidence they provide any benefits except perhaps making you look like a dragon.
Regardless of the murky claims around 'healthy vapes', we know that inhaling any sort of substance can present risks. Dr. Choi of the Cleveland Clinic highlights the dangers seen in the past, bringing up the chilling global wave of acute lung inflammation around the same time as the COVID-19 outbreak.
Dr. Ong reminds us that many of these illnesses may have been caused by vitamin E acetate, used to make vape liquid look thicker. This harmful agent could be amongst the masked culprits inside 'healthy' or 'vitamin' vapes.
While some may argue that these vapes are a good way to stop smoking cigarettes, the lack of nicotine in vitamin vapes makes them useless for smoking cessation. As per Dr. Ong, considering their potential risks and zero proven benefits, these vapes fall woefully short compared to good old-fashioned vitamins or vitamin-rich food.
To the parents reading this, we urge you to start the conversation with your offspring. Despite the shiny allure of these vapes, they're nothing any responsible adult would recommend for their children.
In our book, there's seemingly nothing 'healthy' about a device that may cause lung inflammation or worse. Always remember, the real vitamins are in your kale, your meals, and your ordinary supplements – not smoke-filled gadgets that fancy themselves as wellness devices.
