Living every night like a Walking Dead extra? If so, you might be an unwitting night wanderer - a sleepwalker. And no, it’s not due to that questionable kale smoothie you had for lunch or your newest attempt to open your "third eye". Welcome to the world of somnambulism - a fancy term for sleepwalking.

People usually associate sleepwalking with the slightly drowsy toddler stumbling for a midnight snack. But hold on to your kale chips - adults can be nocturnal nomads too. This fascinatingly peculiar activity occurs when you're stuck between the worlds of sleep and wakefulness like some sort of bedtime Schrödinger’s cat. What's the kicker? Most sleepwalkers have no memory of their moonlit expeditions.

Sleepwalking isn’t picky - it can creep up on anyone but children (ages 3 to 7) are its favorite victims, accompanied by some unfortunate grownups. It’s a nocturnal game of hide and seek that can be stimulated by numerous elements from stress, sleep deprivation, health conditions, to the use of certain medications.

Symptoms? Short of consulting a medium or setting up a GoPro in your bedroom, the evidence may vary. From bizarre fights with invisible intruders to making breakfast at 2 a.m., sleepwalking episodes can be everything from mild to seriously hispter-level epic.

Still, sleepwalking isn’t just an amusing quirk set to provide your roommates with priceless stories. You are effectively comatose on feet, oblivious to each moment and magnifying risk of injury. You wouldn’t let a blindfolded friend juggle knives; treat sleepwalkers with similar caution.

Clinching the diagnosis can be a theatric affair often featuring physical examinations, medical history discussion, sleep studies, and eyewitness testimonies or video evidence. Ever fancied featuring in a paranormal activity-style home movie?

If you find yourself (or a loved one) in this predicament of somnambulism, don't panic. Despite the horror film vibes, it’s rarely a cause for major concern. A few sleep hygiene hacks, some medical or therapeutic interventions (if required), and ensuring a safe sleep environment (hide those sharp objects, folks!) are usually enough.

Intrigued and slightly terrified? We walk you through the hilarious yet somewhat creepy world of sleepwalking, highlighting its possible triggers, simple coping mechanisms, and when it might be a good idea to see a healthcare professional. My dear sleepwalkers, let's sleep, walk, and conquer. Remember, no kale smoothies left behind!
