No-BS Guide to Optimal Fitness: The 75 Soft Challenge Uncovered
- Apr 20, 2024
You're tired of the insanity the fitness industry spews, aren't you? Workout regimes that drain every ounce of your energy, diets with more rules than a game of chess, and an unforgiving cycle of "no pain, no gain?" Say hello to "75 Soft," the rebellious cousin of the notorious "75 Hard," who ain't ashamed of taking it easy.
Here's the word from Stephen Gallagher, our favorite fitness influencer based in Ireland, who's keen on tossing the grueling two 45-minute daily workouts in the trash. With a whopping 2.5 million views on his 2021 video, people are listening.
The brainchild of Adam Frisella, a supplement company owner, "75 Hard" stormed its way onto social media in 2019. This free, back-breaking health regime ran its course for 75 days, amassing an impressive 2.5 billion views under the hashtag #75hard.
Enter "75 Soft," an ironically named challenge that gently mocks its stubborn big brother-a brainwave of Kim and Kalee Sorey, the mother-daughter influencer duo from Nashville. Their "soft" approach includes fun and motivating elements like journals, meal plans, and weekly and daily trackers. The response? The hashtag #75soft has clocked in over 244 million views.
But what in the fresh hell is "75 Soft"? Straight from the horse's mouth, Elizabeth Gardner, MD, sports medicine and orthopaedic surgery expert at Yale, labels 75 Soft a "gentler alternative" to 75 Hard. Still demanding but way less punishing and hell-bent on building healthy habits.
75 Soft takes a kinder, softer route-scaling down on the strenuous workout routines, axing the no-cheat-day rule, and being more flexible about alcohol. Instead, it proposes to train 45 minutes each day without a day off, eat well and drink on social occasions, guzzle three liters of water daily, and read 10 pages of any book. The Soreys' version of 75 Soft, in contrast, champions fueling your body right 90% of the time, working out four days a week, meditating at least five minutes a day.
Jenna Willis, personal trainer certified by ISSA, is all praises for 75 Soft. It is an excellent way to up your fitness game and maintain a healthy lifestyle, she says. It's especially forgiving if you're dipping your toes in fitness or making a comeback and doesn't demand a drastic life overhaul.
Critics warn, however, that the daily exercise rule can be a handful for novices. Noted, but it lets you choose your workout, avoiding the risk of overexertion and sporting injuries.
Experts, including Tara Collingwood, RDN, an Orlando-based dietitian and trainer are delighted that 75 Soft ticks both physical and emotional health boxes and are entirely achievable. Unless you're disabled or restricted medically, 75 Soft can fine-tune and kickstart any fitness regimen.
In summation, the 75 Soft Challenge, stands firm on shaking off impracticality and embracing a steady, sustainable path to fitness. All you're investing in is consistency - no draconian rules, no tiresome regimens. Because, let's face it, now is the time to hustle for that muscle!
